Yes, I've ran both formats in my 5 door '00 Viggen in the Rocky Mountain region..
For Solo II, you are outclassed by the Mini, Volkswagon GTI's and Turbo Beetles if they have half a driver. The real problem is a open diff coupled with a weak chassis. The car likes to understeer, but left foot braking techniques will help with that. You'll get slaughtered in DSP, and SM if you go the modified route by the BMW's and others. A lot of it depends on your region and the level of competition. Still fun though and I can get a trophy spot in the Viggen in my tough region - we've got something like 7 national champions here.
For Time Trials, the Viggen starts to shine. On fast tracks, you'll out pull your competition on the straights against all GS cars. I'll usually qualify with the FS crowd. The downfalls are the same; no lsd, understeer. There's also a couple new problems. The brakes suck: they overheat quickly, and aren't powerfull enough to slow the car quickly. Be careful or you will burn them up quickly. The second problem you'll need to watch out for is overheating. At least in Colorado's thin air, when you push the car that hard for that length of time, you'll start running hot (about 3/4 the way up and rising). You'll also notice the car "floating" sideways (side slipping)on high speed (80+mph) corners, so keep off the brakes if you don't want a spin. My basic strat is to make a couple hard runs, then do a couple cool down runs to get the best times. Upgrade the brake pads, and brake fluid to race specs to help with the brakes. I also hope you are doing local Club Time Trials because the new Time Trials rules require a rollbar. The local Club Time Trials require arm restraints, helmet, full coverage cotton clothes, a car log book, and a transponder mount (i drilled the front plate to accomodate it).
If you are doing both, I'd go with the Kuhmo race tires instead of the Hoosiers. Those Hoosiers will wear out fast on the track (mine lasted 2 events). I like the Michelin Pilot Sport Comps for the track, but they suck for Solo II (which I've pretty much dropped due to the crowd of 300+ drivers = long days & no seat time. BTW: you'll also scare the corner workers since you'll lift the rear tire off the ground quite a lot...
