Well, I cut the gutterguard to be wider than the opening so I could wrap it around, and left it as tall as it was to allow it to stretch down to the bottom of the inside of the bumper. I bought very very short screws, and screwed the very last loops in the gutter guard down to the inside bottom of the bumper. The screws don't show unless you lay down underneath the car.
Then I formed the gutter guard up over the opening, and cut a "U" shape out of the top center for the temperature sensor. Here's a hint -- if you cut the U shape a little bit smaller than the actual U shape of the sensor, you'll have two advantages. #1 there won't be an obvious gap where the mesh stops #2 the temp sensor has flared ends and will hold the top of the mesh in place.
The galvenized steel gutter guard is very nice for shaping and holding the position you put it in...and looks nice too!
NOTE: I would've rather drilled small holes and used small black zipties to hold it, but I have no access to a drill here at school.
ALSO NOTE: If you use screws like I did, be very careful about how far towards the edge of the bumper you screw down, because the splash guard has to fit and attach there too! If you don't pay attention, you won't be able to reattach the splash guard in that position.
