If you want to stay in the stock classes, you can't remove the rear seat, or do any real upgrades besides "wear" items (tires, shocks, belts, hoses, etc.). You are already uncompetitive, so why spend the bucks on upgrades only to get thrown into a much tougher class?
Just get in touch with your local organization. Look em up with a google search. SCCA also has the rulebook online now as well so you can see what you can do for each class. For SCCA, you'll start in G-Stock (GS). You'll get used to losing to the Mini Coopers in the same class :( My Viggen isn't even remotely competitive anymore. So work on driving skills. Most regions have novice training, which is worth doing. You might also go to a couple of events to watch how things are done.
