So I finally finished the project...my 85 900T with 282K needed a new motor...finally...so I have been building up a "new" motor over the past 18 months...
-87 900T block with known 110K/new bearings, reused crank without grinding
-new 900S high compression pistons/rings, light-honed the block, hot-tanked and cleaned.
-92 2.1 Cylinder Head/2.1 Intake with known 75K
-reused my 25# injectors/3.0bar FPR/K&N air filter
-balanced pistons/con rod assemblies to within 1 gram variation
-removed turbo manifold constriction for faster spool up.
-modified turbo distributor advance/retard to allow more retard,(bent pin).
Am running it in really easy of course,(no syntetic oil in there either). But it pulls like never before and at only 2-3psi it REALLY pulls...am being very gentle on it as I know if it pings it could explode...but it really doesn't feel like it's under undue stress. The torque curve is way lower and the car actually picks up from rest without any real lag. It always used to wait for the turbo...now it's already half way down the road before the turbo kicks your arse!
Wish I'd done this years ago, but waiting for a Saab engine to die is kinda like waiting for some of my customers to pay their bills!!!! Never happens...now I have an 85 engine waiting for the next rebuild in about another 20 years!!!
