I have a 1993 classic 900T that I put a set of aftermarket 16x 7.5" rims on with 205/50 BF goodrich tires. The rims have an "ET" close to stock spec, whatever that is (ET40)? All the extra rim width from the 7.5" is predominately on the inside of the rim, so the rim doesn't stick out much further than the stock 15x 5.5" rim. Ever since I installed these rims and tires with a brand new allignment, I had very bad outside shoulder tire wear. Keep in mind that I don't take corners at high speeds nor do I autocross. I had it realligned to give a strong negative camber, but still in spec. The Camber is currently at -.45, castor at 2.0, and toe at positve .11! When I did this, I started getting some slightly excessive inside tire wear on the INSIDE shoulder, but miraculously retained the excessive OUTSIDE shoulder wear pattern as well! In fact, the OUTER 50% of the tire is sloped getting progressively more worn as it reaches the outside shoulder! I have spg springs and heavy duty Bilstien shocks (fairly new), with poly bushings on the front end components. Nobody has ever said my suspension or steering components are worn or bad despite having it looked at not too long ago. I had the tires pumped to 40lbs., with max pressure rated at 44lbs. That helped get more tire wear on the middle of the tire. I can't figure out what more to do to alliviate this very excessive outside tire wear, not to mention the slightly less but still annoying slight inside tire wear. A friend said that since the 205/50 tires are very stretched out over a very wide 7.5" wheel, this could account for the excessive shoulder wear on both sides, and when you go with such a wider wheel than stock, you have to really pump them up to fill out the tire properly and recommends going up to the 44lbs. max tire pressure. Is he right, or is the problem the wheel offset (about 40ET)? or is it something else. I am being forced to buy new tires again due to this wear pattern and I really want to correct the situation before installing expensive new tires!!! Please make suggestions, at this point I'm so frustrated that I'm about to switch back to the stock rims!
