I have driven a Porsche 944S (’87) for the last four years, and still love it to death. Unfortunately, it is not as reliable as I need it to be, so I am forced to buy a new car. As an auto enthusiast, picking out a car is very difficult. I need something that can safely take me through nasty weather at relatively high speeds, but is also fun to play with at the racetrack (Summit Point road course is great).
After testing many vehicles, including BMW's. Nothing quite impressed me like the Saab. Let me first point out, that most of the people who swear front wheel drives can’t corner can’t drive anyway, so it’s a moot point for them. The Viggen I drove corners just fine (but I think it likes me). Even my friend’s stock (for now) 900 isn't bad in the dry, and it kicks butt in the snow. I’ll post the “Saab and Porsche in the Snow” pics and video if anyone cares to see… that was a fun day.
Anyhow, the fact that I like the Saab better than the new Boxster I could have for the same price is, at least to me, what makes Saab special. The Saab just felt like it "fit" better than the other cars I drove. Still, whatever I end up deciding, I think I'll have to keep my old car around. I just can't part with it.
