The point about shock loading is a valid one, I'd guess that depends on how much extra capacity the halfshaft has. I have one of the several hundred Quaifes running around in Taurus SHOs, mine's been on track regularly, I know of a couple broken axles in guys running ~400HP but IIRC all those came from dragstrip launches.
I don't think the Quaife will impart any additional load under braking, there's not any lockup between axles.
As for changing the bias ratio - that means a different angle on the helical gear teeth and (aside from the fact that Quaife would want a bag of money to do it) it's likely to have other impacts on driveability.
The Quaife is still the best all-around piece out there for FWD applications, I wouldn't want to wrestle with a friction-type LSD.
