You're the man when it comes to ECUs, and much else besides! But I thought pin 19 was related to the anti-knock sensor on early cars or 900s - not sure it is even used or connected on my '97 car.
Anyway, the orange wire to pin 14 was the right one to snip on my 1993 9kt. It takes a feed from the gear selector lever switch, so the wire could be found back there and a switch put in, perhaps in the vacant slot under the cabin temp sensor. Switch off = extra power on, as it were.
I started with a rebuilt gearbox so reckoned it would last me out (it did).
