Thanks for your help. I finally got a chance to work on the hinges, and found that a previous owner welded steel to the inside so the hinges cannot be accessed from that side. No wonder I wasn't able to figure it out. I guess I'll have to fabricate some other stop mechanism so the door doesn't open too far and crack the front clip.
