Cooked my starter? Fried my solenoid? WD-40 trouble

Hiya.
In order to remove my ancient (turned out to be MSS) headers from my engine, I had to use an entire can of WD-40 on the studs. Two of the studs actually came out. Anyway, that's all back together, I have a new MSS exhaust with the resonator, and it sounds AWESOME.
In the process, I left the negative battery terminal hooked up for an hour or so. Key off. Liberal application of WD-40 to the studs drenched the starter assembly.
I've got no starter now. When I turn the key, all my instruments drop to '0' and there is a litte click, but no turn engine over.
I'm assuming that this either needs to dry out, or be disassembled/reassembled, or I really fried something.
The reason that I finally disconnected the neg. bat. terminal is that I was working on the right header and got a little arcing on the alternator. Charging system seems to work.
Car will push start, and jumping it had no effect.
Anyone want to tell me I need a new starter?
rolf, '73 Sonett
