The most important thing to look for in a Sonett is RUST. A Sonett may look good on the outside because of the fiberglass body, but could be hiding an ugly secret. Take one look underneath and you would think it sat on the bottom of the ocean. The sheet metal frame will usually rust from the inside out. The rockers, trunk pan, and floor beneath the pedals are where you really need to inspect it. Pull the carpet up to see it it has already started to rust.
Prices on Sonetts are all over the place, but nothing too spectacular. A clean Sonett III or a 68/69 v4 can be had for around $5000-$8000, while a Sonett II (2 stroke) can bring twice that. A reasonably restorable III can bring anywhere from $1000-$3000, but like most old Saabs, its worth what someone is willing to pay. The v4 parts themselves are rather plentiful, but hydraulic and interior parts are hard to come by and a bit pricey.
All and all, I would rather have a rust free bare frame than a rusty complete car. Rusted Sonetts seem to make up over two thirds of whats for sale out there and are usually very cheap. First and foremost, check for rust.
Good luck!
