I personally am no expert, but I've been collecting comments on this, and the consensus seems to be that any high-quality gear lube is OK as long as (a) it's NO HEAVIER than SAE 80 EP and (b) you change it at least twice a year or at least every 6000 mi., whichever comes first. (Basically, the more often you change it, the better -- the idea is to get those little metal bits out before they stick in a needle bearing and wreak havoc.)
Lots of people seem to like the synchromesh version of Redline MTL, which is what I use, and there's an AMSOil lube that several of the experts like.
The most common mistake seems to be using something heavier than SAE 80 (on the theory that "thicker is better"... this may work for catsup, but not for Saab gearbox lube!) Since the shafts in the gearbox are arranged in a triangle and are lubricated solely by "splash," apparently the thicker oils don't get thrown far enough to reach all the upper/more remote bearings. Even the SAE 80W-90 gear lubes commonly sold in auto parts stores may be too thick, I've been told...
