Under stand completely. I'm on the other end of the spectrum- last of 4 is a Sr in high school...
So if the compression is ok... then run it!
One other thing to check while you're at it, is the front balance shaft bearing. That tends to be the weak point on the V-4. Overtightening the fan can cause premature wear as well. So to check it, grab the balance shaft pulley and try to move it side to side. It should be pretty tight with maybe some perceptible movement. If it's loose, then your oil pressure will be down. What happens next is that the bearing starts to wear exponentially. Then the fiber teeth on balance shaft gear don't make good contact and the strip off. Then... you stop.
