Some bright light at Castrol has created a totally unnecessary can of worms with that labelling.
All brake fluid may be considered "synthetic" in that it is created in a factory and not from things that grow. So is a piece of steel.
DOT 3 and DOT 4 are slightly different specifications for conventional brake fluid that has been around forever. Castrol LMA claims to meet both specs. In practice they are regularly interchanged and mixed without problems. This is the first instance I have seen of LMA or any conventional fluid being called "synthetic." LMA can be used in your Saab and freely mixed with any conventional DOT 3 or 4 fluid.
DOT 5 is a very different specification that is usually called "synthetic." It is a totally different fluid that should be used only where it is worth the trouble and expense (ie certain racing applications). It has downside features and is not for you.
DOT 5.1 is where it gets interesting, it is "conventional" not "synthetic" (leaving aside Castrol's inexplicable use of the term) and can be mixed with DOT 3 or 4 but NOT with DOT 5. Whoever named this did nobody a favor. Without a need for its particular characteristics, I would avoid it.
There's lots more, but that's already more than you need to know. Stick with DOT 3/DOT 4 fluids. LMA is just fine.
