Personally, I find the master on the SIII one of the WORST jobs in the world to remove and replace. Rebuilding isn't very much fun either, as there is this nasty nylon washer/spacer that must come out first and it really doesn't want to. I use the drill technique- drill 3 or 4 small holes in the washer and carefully break it apart. Bruce Turk wrote a nice article on how to rebuild the SIII master using this technique- you can find it on the Vintage Saab Club of North America (VSCNA) website.

Back to removing it- it's so bad and rotten, that Jack Ashcraft makes a kit to ease the pain. You basically cut an access hole through to it, from the driver's side inner fender, and then close it up with a new plate that bolts in.

I haven't purchased from Skandix since they made the change over- I thought they were going to keep shipping costs low for "higher volume" parts. Not that any of this stuff is remotely high volume. Too bad. That was my main source. Certainly you can check Jack Lawrence at Motor Sport Service (his catalog is also on the VSCNA website), or Ashcraft. There's also a guy on ebay in the UK that is advertising Saab hydraulic kits.

The old Beck Arnley numbers I have are: 071-0897 for the slave and 071-1671 for the master.

Good luck!
