Craig,
Thanks for the reminder on all this- excellent! I've had pretty much all those problems.
Last summer, one of my Sonett's ('74) became difficult to shift into reverse. I tried the standard fixes that you named, but it didn't help. This spring when I got it out of storage, it seemed a little worse. So I threw in the classic slave cylinder washer shim and it's been shifting like butter ever since.
Some people over the years have a bit of a reaction to this fix and get all twisted around about it. Hey- I really don't want to take off the Sonett nose, pull the drivetrain and fix the little bit of slop that's crept into the release mechanism. A little 2 cent washer and five minutes and it may give no more problems for the next ten years. I'll do that trade any day!
Hope everyone is enjoying their VSaabs this summer! I have two on the road ('68 Deluxe and '74 Sonett). I'm finishing up a pretty much nut and bolt restoration on a '71 96.
