If it's just gummy, any local carb shop should be able to rebuild it; it was used on several other Ford engines so it's nothing too exotic. Or you can try it yourself if you can find the kit. It's basically a simple design and if you clean it up inside and replace the parts that come in the kit, you've done about all you can do. This was the first carb I ever tried to rebuild, back in my college days, and even with no experience it was a pretty easy job.
BUT... I haven't had this problem myself, but I've been told that the big killer of FoMoCos is that eventually the metal wears around the throttle plate, admitting extra air and making it impossible to control the mixture. If this is what's wrong with your carb, a simple rebuild won't fix it and the only economical solution is to relace it.
