Flywheel / pressure plate too rusty to resurface by hand? Posted by SteveR [Email] (#2755) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SteveR) on Sun, 1 Nov 2020 14:25:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |

My engine and transmission have been separated for around 4 years now, so the flywheel and pressure plate have gotten very rusty even though they've been stored in a garage. See pictures at the link above.
For the actual friction surfaces, my plan was to re-finish them by hand with brake cleaner, fine grit sand paper, and perhaps a fine wire wheel. Do you guys think that's reasonable? I really don't want to take off the flywheel if I don't have to. I know I could get it machined if needed.
For the non-friction surfaces (bell housing mating surface on flywheel, gear teeth on flywheel, general pressure plate parts) do you think the same process will be sufficient?
Please let me know if anything in those pictures stands out.
Thank you!
