I don't have the V4 so this is just a guess and what I could find.

First the V4 manual I found and where my thoughts are coming from on page 27.
http://www.vintagesaabmanuals.org/uploads/1/9/1/5/19154273/saab_787961_sonett_ii_supplement_150dpi.pdf

I do think your original blower is missing as I think it should be where the wind shield washer bottle is in your picture.

The attached pic comes from that page 27 and shows the water flow from the engine. According to the picture, the small black arrows are water flow and are over laid on the hoses in the picture. I added the red arrows next to the small black arrows that are on what I believe are the heater hoses. By following the arrows, I believe water leaves the engine block to a connection on the lower side of the firewall and then exits about the same place and goes to one of the connections in your picture. So I think one of those big connections in your picture is the inlet to your heater core and then, according to the picture, the outlet is somewhere on the driver side returning to the engine. I think the smallest fitting is a petcock to flush out the heater core and my Sonett III has one in about the same spot.

Anyway, just my thoughts.
