Re: Pulling Engine, U joint questions Posted by eric in vermont [Email] In Reply to: Pulling Engine, U joint questions, BradW |
Hi Brad,
Nothing to disconnect with a bolt or nut. The outer drive shaft has a Tee on the end. On the end of the Tee are two cups. The cups contain 20 odd little needle bearings. The cups will invariably come off and you'll loose one or more needle bearings in the goo, never to be seen again by man nor beast. So be careful.
And the cups fit into slots in the inner driver, which stays in the transmission. You should check the slots for wear when it's all apart. If there IS wear, you can swap the drivers side-to-side if the wear isn't too bad. The drivers POP out of the transmission by using a crow bar between the driver and the transmission housing- drain the gearbox first.
Hope that helps.
