I need to adjust our shifter assembly forward just a tiny bit (1973 Sonett III) so that when the lever goes forward into 1st and 3rd the bottom arm isn't impinging on the cross brace immediately behind the shifter. It doesn't have to go far, but when I loosen the four bolts and move it to the center of the slots, it now pops out of 1st gear.
There is no other adjustment mentioned in the book, other than loosening the 4 bolts and moving the entire assembly forward or back. And I looked at the entire rod and mechanism and can't see anywhere else to adjust things. Ideally I need to shorten the shifter linkage by the same amount I'm moving the assembly forward (2-3mm). A search on the site here didn't turn up anything. Do I need to break out the grinder and welder??? or is there another place to adjust the linkage besides moving the shifter assembly?
