Yeah, that's the right way.
I've never had much of a problem bleeding the brakes on vintage Saabs. I don't do anything special-
1. Fill the master
2. Open the bleeder and let gravity do it's work until fluid comes out the bleeder
3. Close the bleeder
4. Have assistant pump the brakes a few times
5. Then do the normal- DOWN, open the bleeder, let it spurt out, then close the bleeder
6. Repeat until a clear stream comes out
Saab clutch hydraulics can be a bit more difficult. I usually use a big syringe thing and push the fluid from the slave up to the master, through the slave bleeder screw. You can also plumb a fitting into a spare master cover and use air pressure to force it down to the slave.
