Clutch Slave Rebuild - 1968 v4

How confusing! I found a rebuild kit, in stock, at a local Napa (Beck/Arnley 071-0897) - crazy. I was sure to note how the old parts were situated in the cylinder as I took it apart. (from inside out) spring, then piston, and seal over post at back-side of piston - flat side against back of piston, then lock ring, then dust cap. NOW...the picture in the service manual that came with the car (written for SAAB 95, 96, and Monte Carlo year 1967 shows the "seal" in fromt of the piston - NOT over the post, but between the front of the piston (cupped) and the lock ring.
Since the clutch was not working when I bought the car, I thought that BY THE BOOK was probably the way to go with the new parts. For some reason, I could not get the slave to bleed to preasure that way. Hmmmmm I've since switched the seal back onto the piston post and have preasure at the pedal but an awful noise and vibration when I slightly push it in.
Please help
