This is a line of Ford just like the Mercury Capri which was produced and made by "Ford of Germany". As you may not be aware the European "German Capri", made in the 60's & 70's, also had the same V-4 engine as used in the Saabs. A V-6 was developed from this engine (2600cc then the 2800cc) and was used in the Capris imported into the US and Canada. At the same time "Ford of England" was producing the "English" Capri which also had a V-4 but of a totally different design than the German engine! This engine was also later developed into a V-6. I am not sure when the Scorpio was first manufactured or when the V-4 and V-6 engines were used but I believe they were made in the mid to late 80's.
