If you get in contact with MSS re the clutch, you can ask them about performance parts too. The owner, Jack Lawrence, designs and manufactures a wide range of high-performance V4 parts. Jack Ashcraft on the west coast has some too; he's also written a book about performance upgrades that I haven't seen but might be worth checking out. Both of these guys have had a lot of competition success in Sonetts.

If you're just looking for basic mods for mild performance improvements for street driving and don't want to get involved in engine work, it's pretty simple assuming your engine is in good condition and well-tuned to begin with:

-- Track down a 2-barrel manifold and add a 2-bbl progressive carburetor -- Weber 32/36 seems to be most popular.

-- Install the tuned performance exhaust sold by MSS.

-- Replace your points with a Pertronix Ignitor electronic trigger module -- this doesn't actually make more power, but keeps the ignition timing constant so you don't need to do tuneups as often.

These are all relatively simple, not ridiculously expensive bolt-ons and probably will give you the most 'bang for the buck' in terms of performance improvement. You can go a lot farther with race-style mods such as porting and polishing, bigger valves, different camshaft, boring out the engine to increase displacement and installing higher-compression pistions, etc., etc., but all that involves a lot of engine disassembly and machining, and requires additional upgrades to cooling and lubrication, more frequent maintenance, etc.

What could you possibly want to change on the body? Part of the charm of the Sonett V4 is its bug-eyed toady weirdness...
