Thanks guys! I changed out the brushes on the alternator this AM (what fun!), but this was not the problem. After speaking with another Saab owner I was directed towards the ingition switch wiring since neither the altenator light or oil warning light would light when the ignition switch was in the on position. What I found was a rivet on the inside fuse panel had broken and the power feed to the heater fan, horn, tach, dash lights, and alternator exciter wire, etc. was not making contact. I used a small brass bolt, washer and nut ($1.09)to reconnect and everything is fine now.
