Go to your local good radiator shop and they can clean it and etch it for $100. I had a tank which the had to dipped twice it was so bad. Be careful using a kit. Sometimes a bit of liner can come off and plug the fuel line. I would take it out and see how bad the tank is by removing the gas sender. If its not too bad, throw in some gas/turpentine and a bunch of loose nuts and bolts and then shake the tank. Get all the crude off the bottom and then use the re-line kit. I personally don't like messing with gas tanks so off to the radiator shop they go.
