Hello again Mike,
First note Mike that the color is refering only to the color of the valve covers(I believe all of the engine blocks were black). The silver engine was the early 1498cc V4 (open deck?) and was used up to Sonett #510 (excluding #504, 505 & 508). The blue engine was the later 1498cc (closed deck?) and was used from Sonett #511 (including #504, 505 & 508). The black engine was the 1698cc as seen from 1971. These engines were vitrually identical to those in the 95 & 96 except for having stiffer valve springs.
I seemed to have lost touch with you so I have included my email address.
