Stock size was 155 SR 15 Wheel size 4.5" x 15" Recommended tire pressure 25 PSI Front 22 PSI Rear. Some out there are using 165 x 15 as used on the later VW Bug (the older Bugs also used the 155 SR 15's) but there is a risk of the wider tires rubbing on your rear fenders and front fenders (when you turn the steering wheel and/or have a loaded car). I think my springs on my 71 Sonett have sagged too much for the 165's as it is very low to the ground. I replaced the front and rear springs on my 73 Sonett with heaver coils and would not have a clearance or bottoming out problem, but the car does sit about 4-5" higher than the 71. There still is a few places that you can buy the 155 SR 15 tires. Although they are not a performance tire, this is what I use.
