patquin, I hope this helps. My Sonett spare parts manual lists two starters for the V-4 engine, Saab part # 88 01 075 (Bosch EF (R) 12V 0,8 PS. 0 001 208 029)is listed as for the Sonett V-4 and Saab part # 88 07 596 (Bosch 0 001 311 023)is listed as for the Sonett III. According to JA's V-4 Hi Performance manual the early starter's diameter is 91.5mm (3.6") and the later's is 111mm (4.37"). He cautions, "BE WARE that the 5/8" or so that you lower the engine will put the oil pan 5/8" or so down into harms way under the car....[as well as] the header pipes..." and recommends maintaining 3/8" clearance between the oil pan and the frame at two areas. These areas are at the edge/lip of the jacking reinforcement on the frame nearest to the oil pan and at the point where the fuel line crosses under the oil pan.
