The lights sure could use some improvement - but not at the expense of a classic. I am lucky enough to have a mint Sonett III on the road with 40K miles and two rust buckets with one decent engine. I am currently taking all the working pieces and turning them into one car. My "AG Sonet" (its silver) has constant problems with the headlights. They rattle so much that the bulbs go, and the electrical ain't so reliable either - but I love to pull that big lever and watch the light shine out!
My solution is that one hood of my "rehabber" will be left alone (a hangar queen). The other will have the light holes filled smooth and rectangular hi-lows mounted just inboard of the turn signal light. I may have to trim the grill length. The "bucket" hi-beams will stay as fog lights or running lights. The lever will stay too, either as a turn-switch or a pull-out to actuate the micro-switch. All this is in keeping with the new theme of RED exterior, gray interior, red racing buckets, bigger tires - not a classic anymore - more a teeny hot-rod. BTW - Jack's little manual has been a great help in coming up with this idea.
