I think the "Sonett" announcement is old news. The most recent things I've seen (on the Leftlane News RSS feed) were that GM was considering a Saab version of the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky roadster... then the next day that they weren't, and NOW were considering a Saab version of the Opel Astra coupe.

But all that was before today's announcement of GM's "4-point plan" to regain profitability. This plan calls for eliminating at least six production facilities, cutting capacity by 1 million vehicles, and probably a lot of other reductions as well. I suspect that any previous new-product rumors will need to be re-evaluated in light of this.

Another recent Leftlane News clip said that GM's ambition is to move Saab further into the upscale brand tier -- competing with BMW and Mercedes-Benz -- so don't count on affordability being a feature of any future Saab-labeled sports car.
