help with leaking fomoco

rebuilt the single barrel fomoco in a '74 V4
it ran fine for 30min then started to leak gas out of the front of the carb from the main gasket, not the accelerator pump or the gas in line.
the bolts are as tight as they are going to get, have taken the top off and adjusted the float three times (it is as low as it is going to go without just sending fumes down the barrel)
when we took the carb apart there was a lot of blue gasket sealer around the bowl, so i'm guessing the carb is shot?
any advice? i'd rather not spend the money on a 2bl setup at the moment. was thinking of calling junk yards to see if anyone had a pinto carb.
thanks
henri
