...You would then be less advanced then you should be. Why? A bb post lower down relates that Sonetts have a mechanical advance that activates at as low as 300 RPM. You need to disconnect plugs 2 3 and 4 so the car can'r run. Then time it with only plug 1 receiving spark. You will be way below 300 RPM so the car will be timed properly. If you don't you won't have proper timing and power at high RPM.
You also need to make sure your air cleaner(s) is(are) clean. Dirty cleaners don't allow enough air at high RPM, so your car behaves like the choke is stuck on rich.
Finally, make sure carb and its jets are clean and floats are not bogged down from being old and gasoline impregnated. Easiest way to clean a carb without pulling wrenches is to fill the tank with Chevron Techron, and don't forget the lead substitute.
