The trouble with this is that it's almost totally irreversible -- if some future owner wants to get the freewheel working again, he has to dismantle the whole transmission and find replacements for all the parts. I'm currently working on a car in which a previous owner welded up a perfectly good freewheel assembly! Okay, if the teeth are stripped out and the rollers are toast, I can understand it -- nobody's going to be able to fix that puppy anyway without a lot of disassembly, so welding it makes sense. But if it's salvageable, please lock it out in a way that can be undone later if necessary.
I found the picture below showing the Jack Lawrence sleeve, which I also have used on a transaxle. It just slips over the input shaft and holds the locking sleeve securely back against the freewheel cup. This won't help if the teeth on your freewheel have been sheared off, but it does keep an intact freewheel from just popping out of lock.
