sonett #1 is currently under the same "rolling restoration" as yours. low milage engine, new clutch, but same rust issues in the floor pans. The doors and back half of the car is red, the front is orange, no bumpers, and aftermarkert JCW style side lights on the rear. the interior has been restored and it will hopefully be painted this summer, and maybe the rust fixed...maybe. but all in all its been an interesting adventure, slowly watching the car progress.
now sonett #2 kind of fell into our lap, turned out a gentleman in the town over had bought the car in the 80's collected a huge amount of parts planning to restore the car, totally took the car apart, had all the rust fixed, then stoped. this is when we got the car. since it has been a giant project, slowly coming togeather in the garage, moving under its own power for the first time this summer. but even with the new engine etc it still took some time to work out all the bugs and actually just took it out today to easter dinner with the family who were all amazed to finally see it running under its own power without me constantly tinkering with somthing.
although saabs i think are never really done, just today the car ran perfect, no problems at all. then i go and left the lights on. no power. so there we are, my aunt in the drivers seat, 4 guys behind the car, pushing down the street to pop start it. then she just takes off around the block while we all stand there waiting for her to come back :) (thankfully she did)
but i think rolling restorations are interesting, a good source for garage therapy because there will always be somthing to do. but a ground up restoration will produce the best looking "show" cars. but i would much rather have a car to take to the beach, or just to the grocery, and not have to worry about it being ready for the next show...sonetts are too much fun to drive
