He was using 2 sets of wheels. He mentioned that he might be branching out to use the center of a set of soccerballs and fit to a 6 inch wide hub. I cannot believe that those hubs cost less than 15o per hub. Machining costs will be at least 50/rim, probably closer to 150, as there is substantial watertight/airtight welding.
That being said, my conversation was 1 year ago, and I believe the car you pictured has been around for at 2 years (if it is the car I think it is).
On Fleebay, soccerballs are beginning to fetch upwards of 300 clams for a set of 5.
No matter how the numbers flesh out, it is still a hunk o' change. Highgates will allow you to sell seperately.
Before he sold the rim business, Boyd Coddington could have done something like this easily. Machine off the hub and place a wider hub in its place. They were bought out by American Racing, so yuou might want to call them and ask if they are still doing custom work if you still want this kind of rim. You might even be able to get them to increase the rim diameter to 16 or even 17.
