The Davies=Craig unit is still on the car, that is, the second one. I got the first one with the optional controller which failed within a few months. The pump itself started to leak within a few thousand miles, certainly less than 10K anyway. IRRC the second pump supposedly has an improved seal design.
I do not recommend this unit.
I have not been driving this car lately so it is not an active issue. I did research other pumps and spoke with a technical party from an American mfr (D-C is from Australia) and identified a durable industrial-grade 12V pump that is economical, rebuildable, and should be up to the task. It is not a purpose-built pump for automotive application, rather a general-purpose pump whose specs meet the requirements of an automotive coolant pump. I will have to dig out the details which are buried in the usual heap of paperwork. If I do not post back on this subject in a few days, email me to jog my memory kansasgarage#sunset.net. Substitute the a with a circle around it for #, some silly rule about not posting email addresses in plain text.
Electric water pumps are the way to go IMHO and I am incomprehending that they are not being more widely adopted on modern vehicles.
