There is a huge difference between painting a metal vs. fiberglass body. Metal is relatively easy to prep (unless there is rust, of course) and for 99% of paint shops, this is what they do and know about. Most body shops have never handled fiberglass.
Fiberglass is its own world. High quality prep is tricky. A poor prep job will look fine for 6 months, and then crack, chip, spider, etc. Any good job must remove ALL prior paint, down to the original glass. This simply cannot be done on a $2,500 budget.
Assuming no bodywork at all, you should expect to pay at least $5,000 for a top quality, professional job. I really doubt a national chain can handle this kind of job ... if you are looking for "show quality", that is.
