I also have 185/65's on my two Sonett's and don't have rubbing problems. This is the largest size on a standard 4.5" soccerball rim that is recommended by many VSaab people. In fact, some in the VSaab community say 175 is the widest you should go and 185 is asking for trouble. I have seen 195/60's over the years, but I wouldn't personally push it that far. The issue isn't rubbing, it's the tire is too wide for the rim and can roll off in hard cornering.
Most tire websites have calculators to compare tire diameter's so you can see what is closest to the original 155 size. Here's one site that has a really good description of tire sizes and how to calculate diameters:
http://www.sanjosechevys.org/Tech/tech_Tire_Sizing.htm
The closest in diameter to a stock 155 tire is the 175/65 tire. It will give a speedo error of 1.14 MPH high at 65. The 185/65 will read 2.55 MPH high.
