SAAB'S APRIL 2000 SALES UP 23 PERCENT
* Saab sales of 3,319 units up 23% over April, 1999 (2,700 units)
* Saab 9-3 Convertible up 43%; 9-5 Wagon up 83%
NORCROSS, Ga. - Saab Cars USA, Inc., the U.S. importer and distributor of
Saab 9-3 and 9-5 automobiles, announced sales of 3,319 units during April
2000Ña 23 percent increase over April 1999 sales (2,700 units).
Year-to-date, Saab is gaining sales momentum and catching up to the torrid
pace set in 1999. The year-to-date total sales are at 10,092, which is down
9 percent from the same period in 1999 (11,084). However, 1999's total
included 760 fleet sales.
In April, Saab sold 2,000 9-3 units, of which 979 were 9-3 Convertibles.
This represents a 43% increase over April 1999. The Saab 9-3 Convertible is
offered in three turbocharged models: the base convertible, the 9-3 SE
which features Saab's 2.0-liter high-output turbocharged engine, and the
9-3 Viggen which offers 230 hp and up to 258 Ib.-ft. of torque from its
2.3-liter high-output turbo engine.
Sales of the Saab 9-5 Sedan and Wagon models also were strong, with a total
of 1,319 units retailed during April. The Saab 9-5 Wagon continues to gain
sales momentum as 441 units were sold in AprilÑan 83 percent increase over
April, 1999, the month in which the 9-5 Wagon was introduced. This April,
Saab introduced the 9-5 Aero Wagon, a high-performance variant that offers
Saab's potent 2.3-liter high-output turbo engine, a performance-tuned
chassis and sport-enhanced exterior design. The 9-5 Aero Wagon epitomizes
Saab's belief that performance and safety can go hand in hand.
