Electrical Problem
Posted by Steve Barber (more from Steve Barber) on Tue, 19 Sep 1989 12:41:11
I had an interesting problem crop up last night while I was headed up toCopper Harbor to get a better look at the Northern Lights. The problem seems to be this:When I touch the brake pedal, both turn signal lights on the dash come on,but very dimly. In the daylight I can't see this happen. I don't knowwhat happens to the outside turn signals. If I have a turn signal oneverything is okay until I step on the brake pedal, in which case theturn signals go out and don't flash until I take my foot off the brakes. When I got home and put the car in reverse to shut it off, the backuplights also made the turn signals on the dash glow dimly. This morningI put on the turn signal while it was in reverse and the turn signal stillflashed, but much slower. Finally, to confuse the issue further, when I got home last night and wasletting the turbo cool down before I shut the engine off, I heard a clicksomewhere (sort of like a relay click?), the fan speed changed slightly(faster or slower, I don't know, I just heard it change since I wasn'tlistening for it), the turn signal lights on the dash went out, and afterthat everything seemed okay, though I didn't test it very thoroughly. Theproblem was back when I went out this morning though. This sounds kind of like a bad ground situation to me. The car is an '83900 Turbo. If anyone has encountered this particular problem before, anyhints would be appreciated. I have a Haynes manual but find their wiringdiagrams to be incomprehensible. Maybe it's something simple like a badrelay somewhere? Where do I start looking?-- --**-Steve Barber----stevebno39sdcx6spamx782shade.Ann-Arbor.MI.US----(cmode)-------------------
