February, I

My clock stopped recently after a mechanic discharged my battery during a
wheel alignment (held the brake down too long). He connected a rapid charge
battery booster to my battery without first disconnecting from the car's
electrical system. The clock seems to have been burned out by the
over-voltage from the charger. The mechanic admits he ignored the charger
manufacturer's warning about rapid charging, but he claims he's never had a
problem until now. It is safe to say he won't be getting my business again.

Does anyone know if the clock is replaceable without replacing the entire
instrument cluster?

I would connect a ammeter between the battery and the ground to see if
current is being drawn. Then disconnect one fuse at a time until the draw
stops to isolate which circuit is drawing power. Make sure the engine is not
running.

The tach is electrical AFAIK. It gets its signal through the harness
connector on the back of the instrument cluster. Does your speedo work. It
sounds like the cable is disconnected for that in your description.

This is a vacuum reservoir so that the vacuum controlled ventilation
operates a little while after you switch off the engine. Mine sprung a leak
on the fitting so I sealed it with silicone.

Hope that helps.
