Difficult Gear Shifter
Posted by JensenSam (more from JensenSam) on Wed, 19 Jul 2000 23:10:25
Hello fellow Saabers!
I have an 86 900 spg with about 183k. My problem is that every now and then
it is difficult to get the gear shifter out of reverse and into any other
gear. It doesn't seem to matter if I go backwards for a few feet or not.
After I get it out of reverse it doesn't want to go into any gear. I
normally end of getting it back into reverse after hearing it grind and then
I can normally get it into 2nd gear and take off. It will not want to shift
until I normally hit the highway and then after a few miles/minutes there
aren't any problems. Is this a clutch problem or a transmission problem?
Also, my clutch pedal has a lot of 'play.' I can press on it about 1/4 of
the way down before it starts to engage at all. I've replaced the clutch and
the (?) master cylinder (I'm not sure of the technical components of my
car...but they replaced everything that has to do with a clutch) at about
150k. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem? I would
appreciate any feedback at all!
Thanks in advance,
Samantha
86 900 SPG 183k and still going strong...i hope!
