In my experience with the 900 5 Spd's, you cannot afford to be slack with gearbox oil changes. Too much risk - this is a very expensive component to replace, and it should only cost you AUS$30-$40 to change the oil.
NB If your gearbox has the little pull out dipstick - never trust it. My SAAB master tech has been removing these and replacing them with a bolt dipstick for years. Apparently SAAB confirmed that they were inaccurate in that they indicate you have enough oil in there, when you don't. They confirmed this after a spate (many) of stuffed diff bearings (gone at around 60,000 miles) in those parts of Australia where it gets REALLY hot. Consequently, always overfill. Your gearbox, especially the strengthed '92 spec, will last a lot longer.
Has anyone out there had experience with gearbox oil additives? I have heard good things of the Wynns additive.
Cheers
Simon....
