Not great. Boot it now, or replace the axle later. It'll go for a few
months. Probably. *If* you want to trash the joint. (Although if it's
already making noise, you're almost certainly hosed.)

>Also, experience with 'quick-boot' products.

Yuck. Not good. Also a temporary solution.

[You don't say what you're driving; this is based on 99/C900 suspension,
which is what I work on.] Very good. Aside from axles, shocks, lower
shock bushings, and the occasional lower control arm, the front end is
fairly trouble-free. But note that pulling the driveshaft on these cars
is really easy compared to most. One big shaft nut, shim the suspension,
lift the front end, unbolt one of the U-joint blocks (usually easy, this
is not the actual U-joint bolt which is a pain), tilt the steering
knuckle out of the way sliding out the driveshaft as you go, unscrew the
inner boot, and it's out! (See a manual for the fiddly details, the most
important one of which is keeping those joints *clean* when you put it
back together.)

Do note the caveat starting my last paragraph. Advice possibly worth
less at least half of what you paid for it.

cheers,
andrew
