Racing Idle and Sudden Stalls

Dear Saabsters,
HISTORY: I've got a 1985 900 Turbo 16V (Manual) sedan whith 244,000+
miles. This car has really been good to me! Over the past 5 years or so
that I've had it, I haven't needed to do any major repairs on it (or at
least nothing that I couldn't handle myself). However, I think I'm finally
stumped!
PROBLEM: About a year ago, I started noticing that usually under heavy
exceleration the engine would suddenly loose power (it feels like someone
turned the ignition off and back on) usually just for a split second and
then return to normal. Over the following months this problem got worse to
the point that now I can't drive anywhere without it spuratically coughing
and spuddering on me. Occasionally it will even quit all togehter but I
can usually get it running again by turning the ignition off and back on
again while the car is still rolling and in gear (which sort of makes me
feel like its a computer problem).
WHAT I'VE TRIED: So far I've replaced the Distributor, the Ignition
Control Unit, and I've checked for bad connections and loose vacuum tubes,
but nothing has effected the problem (for better or worse).
RELATED PROBLEM?: Aslo the idle will suddenly race up to about 2500-3000
RPMs and remain there for about 10-20 seconds. This usually happens when I
am coming to a stop while engine braking, or else maintaining a steady slow
speed in a higher gear.
My guess is that it might be a bad Electronic Control Unit (the one under
the dash on the passenger side).
PLEASE HELP: Does anyone have any clues as to what this problem may be?
