Hello Andrew

>From personal rally experience, (on a Subaru Legacy) changing tire sizes
was a problem in the gear ratio and power available. We ran larger
diameter than stock and would have no power left when going into third,
nothing. We finally ran the stock sized tire at Charlivoix and the
power was better throughout the gears. Also there are different
theories on tire width and surface, weight is also an issue, you need
more power to roll the 'bigger/wider' tires and true rally snow tires
are very narrow, at least the ones TnT(McGeer/Williams) run on the WRX
Impreza. Also I trust you will be using alloy rims and not steel? The
alloys will last much much longer when you hit rocks and get a flat.

My recommendation is to stay with stock sized tires on alloy rims. Buy
NEW rally purpose tires, this link just arrived in my mail box, it may
be of interest... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/kumho/ku_r700.jsp

Although I don't rally a SAAB, I drove one for many years and plan/hope
to rally a 1963 96 one day.

Good luck
