Aquiring a manual gearbox from the US

I am looking into getting a gearbox from a wrecker or where ever from
the states and I have a contact over there. I am wondering what is the
best way to get one to New Zealand and I don't mind waiting but UPS
would cost the earth and I could almost buy one new for the price! 

Any ideas on shipping and where to get one would be appreciated. they
are hard to come by over here - everyone seems to like autos :( I am
converting to a manual from an auto.
