'99 9-5 wiper durability? [saabnow]

I've got a '99 9-5, purchased new, currently with 25K miles. I had
difficulty replacing the wipers last year at 18K (blades are different
lengths, had to go to dealer to replace full assemblies for about $45).
Now visibility when using the wipers is poor, as if the blades need to be
replaced again. My questions: 1. Is there an easy way to replace the
'blades' only, or do I have to keep going back to the dealer for the $45
replacement of the full assembly, and 2. Shouldn't I get more than 7K
miles out of a set of wipers? Do you replace based on time (every year?)
or mileage?
My first post, TIA for any assistance.
